Perennial plant originally from the Mediterranean basin (potentially from Egypt), naturalized all over Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
If the name includes the word 'cat', it is because this plant induces a strong reaction in most of those domesticated felines. They become euphoric and very excited; they will start rolling and sniffing around, and will do many other funny things.
For humans, catnip is instead used to soothe pain and unrest. It is also relevant to mention that, before the British Empire discovered tea in its Chinese colonies, infused catnip was a favorite for the royal court.
*This year, we were not able to harvest sufficient catnip seeds. Therefore, our seeds come from Jardin Vie-La-Joie.
