The onion-tasting stalks and edible flowers of chives start to appear early in spring and remain until late in the summer. In the kitchen it is used to enhance dishes, both chiseled or dried.
The fluffy lilac flowers of chives will also attract pollinators. It sometimes reseeds itself.

Heirloom variety. Beautiful and delicious blue leaves with purple spines. Hardy, resistant to diseases and much bigger in size than other kale varieties. Harvest baby or full-grown size leaves. Their taste is even better after frost. This variety entered Canada around 1885 with Russian traders.

Ancient cherry tomato. Very hardy and productive. The fruits are oval-shaped, 4-5 cm by 2 cm. The skin is black, and the flesh dark red. It is used for making dried tomatoes, sauces, or simply in salads.
Originally from a russian seed saver, Marina Danilenko. It was first introduced to Seed Savers (U.S.), and then made its way to Quebec.

There are very ancient mentions of this corn which grew in the region of Gaspé (in Gaspésie, Eastern Quebec) and all over the East coast of Canada. It was originally cultivated by the First Nation Mi'gmaq. History says that Jacques Cartier had observed this crop back in 1534. This small sized corn is a popping corn type. A particularly early crop, its cobs form in no more than 3 months. The cobs measures between 10-12 cm (4-5 inches) and have 8 rows of grains.

This tomato dates back to 1869 according to some sources. It is an Italian tomato with a very soft taste and only little juice. Large productive plants, bearing 4 to 5 fruits per truss. The tomatoes themselves have a funny shape and a light yellow color, with just a dash pink blush. Ideal for tomato paste, sauces and canning.

Coy in the garden, salsify can be mistaken for grass when still young. But its hardiness and lack of pests makes it a wise choice for enthusiasts of curiosities. Not the highest-yielding plant but its taste, somewhere between hazelnut and parsnip, widely makes up for it. It's also a true sundial: as soon as the first lights of the sunrise appear, the flowers will open towards the sun, and will then follow it for the whole day, until it sets. It is from the same family as dandelions.
The roots are tender and do not have a hint of bitterness, as long as harvested before the flowering stem starts to grow. The leaves are also edible. When the flower buds start appearing, on the second year, it is possible to eat them just like with viper's grass.
Culinary uses:

-cooked roots sliced (with white wine to avoid blackening),
-young leaves in a salad,
-cooked leaves as vegetables,
-raw flower buds in a salad, or cooked as vegetables.

Also called Gombo, this plant produces a fruit that can be eaten raw or cooked, with a taste somewhat similar to eggplant. Young leaves can replace spinach. In some countries, the mature seeds are roasted and used as coffee beans. A member of the hibiscus family (Okra latin name is Hibiscus esculentus), its flower is one of the most beautiful in the garden. Originally from Africa, Okra entered Spain in the 8th Century with the moorish invasion. Later introduced in the United States by African slaves, it was considered for some time as poor people food. It is an essential ingredient in gumbo and is commonly used in Louisiana and Southern States cuisine.

Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, this pepper does look like a part of male anatomy.
The exact origin of this pepper is unknown, but it probably comes from Louisiane or Texas in the U.S.A., or from Mexico. Its popularity is allegedly due to Frank X. Tolbert (1912-1984), a Texan journalist and historian working for the Dallas Morning News (between 1946 and 1984) for which he wrote chronicles about rather unusual local news.
There are different versions of this pepper, some are red, others are orange or yellow (quite rare). Ours are red.
They rank on average at 16,500 on the Scoville scale, meaning they are spicy, but also delicious dehydrated or cooked.
Its shape won't go unnoticed, and it is easy to grow in pots for example for grandma's balcony. It can also be included in gorilla gardening project to make the neighbors chuckle.
Life is too short to not enjoy it.
