Originally from Peru, this plant has been cultivated in North America since the 17th Century. The sweet and delicious fruit can be eaten fresh, in jams, soups and pies. Like Chinese lanterns, it is encased in a papery husk. When the fruit is ripe, the husk drops off the plant and you can harvest the gold berry.

A true Quebec heritage treasure, Saint-Anne shallots is a perennial alliaceae. It effortlessly survives our Quebec winters, well-tucked under the snow cover.
It starts growing very early in the spring, and can be eaten at that point as green onions. Afterwards, it starts multiplying and the leaves begin to dry out. It should be harvested on June 24th, on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. Then it should be left to dry completely indoors, in order to eat it as much as to replant it on Saint-Anne Day, on July 26th. It will start growing again and storing energy for the winter. When spring returns, it all starts again!

Package: 6 to 8 small shallots from the spring. Due to the risks of mail shipping, we prefer to send them early in the spring, when they still germinate easily. They must be planted as soon as received, either indoors in pots or outdoors if it is later than mid-May.

Nice red fruits, almost round, about 10 cm long, but not very regular. Very good taste. The name allegedly comes from the fact that this variety had to withstand hail. These tomatoes were grown by Mr. Guy Bourgeois, a market gardener in Ste-Dorothée (Laval) in the 1950s and 1960s to be sold at the Bonsecours market, an old public market in the Old Montreal. A big thank you to his daughter Suzanne for sharing the seeds. We received them from René Paquet who got them from Antoine D’Avignon, a heirloom seed saving pioneer in Quebec.

Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, this pepper does look like a part of male anatomy.
The exact origin of this pepper is unknown, but it probably comes from Louisiane or Texas in the U.S.A., or from Mexico. Its popularity is allegedly due to Frank X. Tolbert (1912-1984), a Texan journalist and historian working for the Dallas Morning News (between 1946 and 1984) for which he wrote chronicles about rather unusual local news.
There are different versions of this pepper, some are red, others are orange or yellow (quite rare). Ours are red.
They rank on average at 16,500 on the Scoville scale, meaning they are spicy, but also delicious dehydrated or cooked.
Its shape won't go unnoticed, and it is easy to grow in pots for example for grandma's balcony. It can also be included in gorilla gardening project to make the neighbors chuckle.
Life is too short to not enjoy it.

The tree onion, or Egyptian onion, has been grown in Quebec for a long time. It is mentioned as early as in the 1820s, and was allegedly brought in with the first colonizers. However its true origin remains mysterious; some people claim that it comes from Catawissa, a town in Pennsylvania, while others say it comes from China.
It is a perennial onion that produces, at the tip of its leaves, clusters of red grape-sized bulbils. The most commonly harvested parts are these bulbils and the bulb, but the leaves can also be used, chopped just like chives. After 2 to 3 years, the plant might start feeling a bit crowded at its base: divide the bunch, and transplant individual sections further apart. Extra ones can be eaten like green onions. The tree onion has an elongated bulb that ranges from small to medium in size.

Aconcagua is an Argentinian mountain, 13 kilometers from the Chilean border. With a summit elevation of 9,962 m, it is the highest peak of the Andes. The Aconcagua pepper variety was named in honor of this natural monument. It produces massive fruits, that can reach 30 cm in length and weight 320 grams. Initially light green, they turn red once they are ripe. Flavourful, they are good in a salad as well as on the grill. High-yielding variety.

Rare, hardy and high-yielding variety. Once grown by Iroquoian people. The plant can reach up to 2 m in height, and has white and purple flowers. The pods can be eaten when still young as green beans.
Its name, skunk, refers to the gorgeous black and white marks characteristic of the beans. They can also, although more rarely, be entirely black. Their flat-shape is reminiscent of lima beans. Once fully ripe, they are ideal for soups. We have tried them for baked beans (fèves au lard) and they are delicious mixed with some Kahnawake Mohawk beans.
This bean was rediscovered by Chester in Vermont and saved by Gail Flagg from Fort Kent, Maine (U.S.).

Italian red tomato. Heart-shaped fruit with a pointed tip, which inspired its name. Flavorful and dense flesh, perfect for sauces and sandwichs. Very good yields, although it is a late season variety. It is resistant to diseases and will handle transportation and manipulation, I would recommend it for vegetable markets.
