Ibis Lettuce

3,78 $

Graceful with its dark red leaves, this lettuce is nonetheless fierce. It has a high resistance to bolting as well as to insects and other pests. The leaves are wavy and crunchy. The lettuce is often described as semi-romaine, as the head is a bit loose and ruffled. Great taste. Rare. A special thanks to Mr. Paquet for sharing it with us.

Curly Endive
The leaves of this large curly endive grow in a rosette, and have a white midrib. Chicory is mainly grown for its young leaves, but can also be eaten once mature when its delightful taste gets a spark of bitterness. Crunchy charming leaves. Can be blanched by covering each plant with an upside-down pot for 2 to 3 weeks. Just make sure to elevate those pots a bit from the ground to provide sufficient air circulation. Can help to reduce bitterness.

Jester Lettuce
This Batavia head lettuce has light green leaves, sprinkled with red dots. They are slightly wavy, reminiscent of a jester costume, which explains the name. They are also crispy and delicious. The plant itself is very hardy, and resistant to bolting. This allows for a longer harvest with delayed planting. This variety was developed by Frank Morton in Oregon, who made a triple-cross between the “Reine des Glaces”, “Merlot”, and “Flashy Troutback” varieties. It was selected for both its visual and eating qualities. Package: 200 seeds

Norfolk Spinach
This spinach variety is very rare. It comes from a convent, the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul in Kingston, ON. These sisters grew over 400 different cultivars of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. They're offered us some treasures that have been grown for over a century. Some of their seed packages were even written using a typewriter. Malabar spinach
Malabar spinach originally comes from the Malabar Coast, India's southwest coast. Eaten like our spinach, it however grows in very different conditions; it loves heat and light as you might expect from its origin. It also has a quite distinct look, climbing up as it grows more and more leaves for us to harvest all summer long. It is both delicious and gorgeous. Malabar spinach can be grown in the ground or in pots. Package: 20 seeds
