Valerian
This pretty medicinal plant flowers on the second year. Its flowers are white with a slight touch of pink, perched on a stalk that can reach u to 1.5 m, and won't fail to attract pollinators. Very hardy, it can survive to temperatures as low as -35 Celsius degrees. The roots can be harvested in the fall on the third year. Some use its roots in decoction as a natural alternative to synthetic sleeping and anxiolytic treatments. Indeed, its sedative and muscle relaxing properties have been celebrated by many for a long time. Its smell and strong taste might throw some people off, in which case you might want to consider mixing it with another plant such as lavender or lemon balm to soften the taste. Young valerian leaves can also be eaten, for example in a salad.   Package: Approx. 75 seeds   Photo credit: https://pepiniererustique.ca/boutique/fr/valeriana-officinalis-p166/

Apios americana
** CANNOT BE SHIPPED OUTSIDE OF CANADA**

KEEP REFRIGERATED AS SOON AS RECEIVED AND UNTIL PLANTING TIME!

Also known as potato bean, hopniss, Indian potato, hodoimo, America-hodoimo, cinnamon vine, American groundnut, or groundnut. Quebec-native climbing plant. It belongs to the legume family Fabaceae. Grows well on river banks and shores, but also in the garden. Its flowers have a strong perfume, reminiscent of glycine. It is sometimes referred to as 'glycine tubéreuse' (tuberous glycine). The bean part of some of its common names refers to the edible beans produced from its flowers, when climate allows. Its tubers, also edible, are interconnected by a liana-root giving it a rosary-like appearance. The apios was widely eaten by First Nations. Nowadays, it is still common to see it growing where their settlements once were. Highly nutritional, it contains up to 18% proteins, 3x that of potatoes. It can be eaten boiled or fried. However, make sure to peel it thoroughly as the skin contains latex. Please note, although very rare, that some people might feel unwell from Apios americana consumption.

Package: 8 small tubers. Germination rate: 100%

Lamb’s ear
Lamb's ears are an herbaceous, woolly, grey-white perennial. Its downy appearance is reminiscent of, surprise surprise, lamb's ears, or also rabbit's ears (hence the French name). The lower foliage grows into a rosette from which emerge a 60 cm tall flowering stem. Some gardeners cut off those stems right away for aesthetic reasons, but the nectar-rich flowers are a delight for butterflies and bees. This short plant can be elegantly integrated into floral arrangements as a ground cover or on borders, without being invasive. In Provence, it is called "main de Dieu" (God's hand) because of its wound-healing and soothing properties.   Package: around 30 seeds

Ail vivace de Caroline (Carolina Perennial Garlic)
Some seeds from this plant were gifted to us by a friend claiming that they were called 'Ail de Caroline'. We do not yet know the exact identity of this plant, but we keep searching. This small perennial plant is hardy in Quebec. It is very similar to garlic chives, yet it is not the same. The stems and leaves are slightly bigger, and have the same delicious taste as regular garlic and can be cooked the same way. Although it does not produce any significant underground bulb, the white base of this plant can be cut and eaten as garlic, just like the leaves. Its purple flowers are gorgeous and are in bloom from July until the end of August, to pollinators' delight. This plant is ideal for permaculture gardens. Not to be confused with with regular garlic nor wild garlic. Package: 80-100 seeds For a thorough explanation of how to plant the bulbils, head to (in French only) : http://terrepromise.ca/culture-bulbilles-dail/

Saint-Anne Shallots
** CANNOT BE SHIPPED OUT OF CANADA ** Only available between July and November every year. A true Quebec heritage treasure, Saint-Anne shallots is a perennial alliaceae. It effortlessly survives our Quebec winters, well-tucked under the snow cover. It starts growing very early in the spring, and can be eaten at that point as green onions. Afterwards, it starts multiplying and the leaves begin to dry out. It should be harvested on June 24th, on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. Then it should be left to dry completely indoors, in order to eat it as much as to replant it on Saint-Anne Day, on July 26th. It will start growing again and storing energy for the winter. When spring returns, it all starts again! For more information, please visit (in French): 56 milles idées. Package: 6 to 8 small shallots from the spring. Due to the risks of mail shipping, we prefer to send them early in the spring, when they still germinate easily. They must be planted as soon as received, either indoors in pots or outdoors if it is later than mid-May.

Comfrey
Common comfrey is widely used in organic agriculture as green manure. It can also be made into comfrey liquid manure or added to compost. This helps with soil fertility and thus plant growth. Comfrey is also very popular among bumblebees and other bees that thoroughly enjoy its sweet nectar. The plant easily reach a meter in height. The stem is a little prickly, and the leaves are large, alternate, pointy, and covered in hair. Above all of this, shoots grow where pink or purple flowers bloom in the middle of summer. *For better germination rates, the seeds should be stratified. To do this, place the seeds in small bag full of humid sand of soil, and put the said bag in the fridge for 2 weeks. *This comfrey is not Russian comfrey (such as Bocking 14). Russian comfrey doesn't produce seeds and would therefore be tricky to sell in seed packages. Warning. We advise against regular comfrey consumption. The plant contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids which can be toxic for the liver in high dosage. Package: 25 seeds
