Italian red tomato. Heart-shaped fruit with a pointed tip, which inspired its name. Flavorful and dense flesh, perfect for sauces and sandwichs. Very good yields, although it is a late season variety. It is resistant to diseases and will handle transportation and manipulation, I would recommend it for vegetable markets.

This variety produces golden and delicious fruits, with a sweet but slight tangy taste. They can be enjoyed raw, but can also be added to various recipes such as fruit salads, sherbets, coulis, jams, and even salsa! It is very rich in antioxidants and beta Carotene.
Eat when the fruit is orange-yellow. Like Chinese lanterns, it is encased in a papery husk. When the fruit is ripe, the husk drops off the plant and you can harvest the gold berry.

Shelling pea variety dating back from the 1880s. The peas are round and sweet. This variety can be eaten fresh as snow peas or dry, and can also be canned or frozen. This pepper variety originally comes from Japan. It gives a bountiful harvest of small wrinkled fruits, about 10 cm in length. Very productive, it will yield at least 25 peppers per plant. The red peppers (when ripe) are equally delicious if eaten earlier, when they are still green. They are mild and sweet but can be bit spicy, especially if dried. Compact plant, ideal for small gardens.

A true Quebec heritage treasure, Saint-Anne shallots is a perennial alliaceae. It effortlessly survives our Quebec winters, well-tucked under the snow cover.
It starts growing very early in the spring, and can be eaten at that point as green onions. Afterwards, it starts multiplying and the leaves begin to dry out. It should be harvested on June 24th, on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. Then it should be left to dry completely indoors, in order to eat it as much as to replant it on Saint-Anne Day, on July 26th. It will start growing again and storing energy for the winter. When spring returns, it all starts again!

Package: 6 to 8 small shallots from the spring. Due to the risks of mail shipping, we prefer to send them early in the spring, when they still germinate easily. They must be planted as soon as received, either indoors in pots or outdoors if it is later than mid-May.

Nice red fruits, almost round, about 10 cm long, but not very regular. Very good taste. The name allegedly comes from the fact that this variety had to withstand hail. These tomatoes were grown by Mr. Guy Bourgeois, a market gardener in Ste-Dorothée (Laval) in the 1950s and 1960s to be sold at the Bonsecours market, an old public market in the Old Montreal. A big thank you to his daughter Suzanne for sharing the seeds. We received them from René Paquet who got them from Antoine D’Avignon, a heirloom seed saving pioneer in Quebec.

The Vinedale variety was created in 1928 by the Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario. It became very popular in the 1950s, but by the 1990s it had almost disappeared. Rare, please share.

The Corne de bouc tomato gives long, cylindrical with a curved pointy tip red fruits. This variety is probably our favorite in terms of taste: sweet and fragrant, it is absolutely DE-LI-CIOUS!
This variety was given to us by Philippe, who used to work next to our farm. A special thanks to him. A perfect choice for your salads, sandwiches and sauces. The fruits contain few seeds, yet it is a productive variety.

This pea variety was carefully preserved by Will Bonzai, in the United States. Few other varieties from the colonial era still exist today, although French colonizers did develop hundreds of pea varieties in their gardens which were well adapted to the North-East American climate. This is were the nickname 'Pea Soup', given by the English to the French, originated.
This variety is a landrace, meaning its peas are of different colors. They look like small pebbles coming straight out of a river, marbled and spotted. We genuinely think those are the most beautiful peas there is. They are ideal to make jewelry. Also adorable as legume in a salad.
Using a net or tutors can help with harvest. High-yielding.

This tomato is a cross between Black Krim and Zapotec tomatoes. It combines the best traits of these two heirloom classics. The flavor of the Black Ruffle is exceptional. The red purple fruit is pleated like an accordion. It is a rare variety really worth discovering.

Heirloom variety introduced to the Saint Lawrence River Valley by French settlers in the 17th Century. It is still eaten today and makes delicious pea soup. High yielding plants. They will need trellising and can grow up to 1 meter tall. The Potager d'Antan reports this story : « According to an old European tradition dating back from the 15th Century, Hubertus, patron saint of hunters, was associated with the pea soup. To make a long story short, during his lifetime, in the 7th Century, Hubert went astray, hunted on Good Friday, and while pursuing a stag, he had a vision in which he saw the animal with a crucifix between its antlers and heard a voice enjoining him to lead a holy life. Hubertus later performed many miracles, evangelized pagans in distant countries, and erected temples dedicated to the Lord. He died on May 30, 727. His relics were translated on November 3, 743. His feast day is November 3 in Belgium and May 30 in France. In memory of Saint Hubert, European settlers in Quebec supposedly kept the name of this pea variety, used in the preparation of the « hunting soup ».
