Yarrow

Common yarrow is a perennial, part of the asteraceae family. It is know to be edible and medicinal; it has invigorating, digestive, antispasmodic, haemostatic, hypotensive, and healing (scarring) properties. Nothing less! This might be the reason why this plant was found, during a DNA analysis, in Neanderthal dental plaque! Really, yarrow was found in archeological excavation done in a Neanderthal grave. Additionally, it is a great host plant for several beneficial insects in the garden.

Catnip
Perennial plant originally from the Mediterranean basin (potentially from Egypt), naturalized all over Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. If the name includes the word 'cat', it is because this plant induces a strong reaction in most of those domesticated felines. They become euphoric and very excited; they will start rolling and sniffing around, and will do many other funny things. For humans, catnip is instead used to soothe pain and unrest. It is also relevant to mention that, before the British Empire discovered tea in its Chinese colonies, infused catnip was a favorite for the royal court. *This year, we were not able to harvest sufficient catnip seeds. Therefore, our seeds come from Jardin Vie-La-Joie. Package: 150 seeds (Germination is slow and sporadic, sow more than you need to obtain enough seedlings.)

Comfrey
Common comfrey is widely used in organic agriculture as green manure. It can also be made into comfrey liquid manure or added to compost. This helps with soil fertility and thus plant growth. Comfrey is also very popular among bumblebees and other bees that thoroughly enjoy its sweet nectar. The plant easily reach a meter in height. The stem is a little prickly, and the leaves are large, alternate, pointy, and covered in hair. Above all of this, shoots grow where pink or purple flowers bloom in the middle of summer. *For better germination rates, the seeds should be stratified. To do this, place the seeds in small bag full of humid sand of soil, and put the said bag in the fridge for 2 weeks. *This comfrey is not Russian comfrey (such as Bocking 14). Russian comfrey doesn't produce seeds and would therefore be tricky to sell in seed packages. Warning. We advise against regular comfrey consumption. The plant contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids which can be toxic for the liver in high dosage. Package: 25 seeds

Lovage
Perennial aromatic and medicinal plant belonging to the Apiaceae family. Just like carrots, it can be eaten. Its flavor resembles parsley or celery. The name lovage is from "love-ache", ache being a medieval name for parsley. It has a variety of culinary uses. Dried, the leaves will replace laurel, and scots lovage salt can be used instead of onion salt. Flowers and seeds are edible. Leaves, stems and roots can be eaten raw or cooked. The umbels are borne on stems that can reach 2 meters tall. Often found in the gardens of New France colony. When archaeologists find traces of this tenacious plant, they know they discovered an old settlement. It was widely eaten in Europe to fight scurvy and as a food source. In the Middle Ages, it was recommended to grow this plant in the vegetable garden. It was also largely used in Ancient Roman cuisine.     Package: 20 seeds

Salad Burnet
Perennial edible plant. Its latin name derives from sanguis (blood) and sorbere (absorb) and refers to its haemostatic capacity. The roots contain chemicals used to stop bleeding. The plant is also high in vitamin C. Nowadays, parsley rivals burnet but it was once an essential herb in many recipes. Its leaves have a cucumber-like taste and can be used in salads, sauces, omelette, soups, etc. Cut leaves when needed. The plant is very low maintenance and lives on love and fresh water. It is hardy in Quebec and can be harvested late in the season. Its pretty little red flowers make this plant perfect for garden bushes.   Package: 20 to 25 seeds

Ail vivace de Caroline (Carolina Perennial Garlic)
Some seeds from this plant were gifted to us by a friend claiming that they were called 'Ail de Caroline'. We do not yet know the exact identity of this plant, but we keep searching. This small perennial plant is hardy in Quebec. It is very similar to garlic chives, yet it is not the same. The stems and leaves are slightly bigger, and have the same delicious taste as regular garlic and can be cooked the same way. Although it does not produce any significant underground bulb, the white base of this plant can be cut and eaten as garlic, just like the leaves. Its purple flowers are gorgeous and are in bloom from July until the end of August, to pollinators' delight. This plant is ideal for permaculture gardens. Not to be confused with with regular garlic nor wild garlic. Package: 80-100 seeds For a thorough explanation of how to plant the bulbils, head to (in French only) : http://terrepromise.ca/culture-bulbilles-dail/
