Perfect for the culture of the three sisters. Be careful, squash and pumpkins do not like having disturbed roots. If you are seedling indoors, transplant gently. For this reason, we prefer to sow directly in the garden.
Triamble squash (Cucurbita maxima)

This rather unique variety of heirloom squash was imported from Australia in the 1930s. It produces fruits with three pale steel blue lobes which give it a very distinctive and decorative appearance. But make no mistake, its taste is just as enjoyable! It has an orange flesh, soft, of good quality, delicious in soup or mashed potatoes.

Interestingly, it is one of the only winter squash whose skin is edible when cooked. Due to its small size, it is ideal for stuffing.;Small squashes can be stored for about 3 to 4 months.

Long cultivation for our Quebec climate, maximize the chances that your squash will reach maturity by growing in a greenhouse or under tunnel. Soak the seeds in hot water (45 to 55°C) for 20 minutes, then in water lukewarm (30 degrees Celscius) for 24 hours before sowing.
Spaghetti Squash (Cucurbita pepo)

This squash has a mild and sweet taste. It has the particularity of having a flesh which, after cooking, comes off in long filaments similar to spaghetti! It can therefore be used as a substitute for pasta. Productive and easy to grow, the fruits measure 25 to 30 cm and are a beautiful golden yellow when ripe. Stores well after harvest.

Turk's Turban Squash

This heirloom variety is originally from France. It is sometimes also called "French turban" or "Giraumon" in French. References to this squash are found in documents as old as 1885, but it is older than the 1820s. This squash is adorned by a very typical orange, white and green bump. Described as an ornamental squash, it is nonetheless delicious in soups or roasts. Its orange flesh is especially sweet.
