Plourde tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)
Rare Quebec heirloom tomato, firm, round, excellent flavor, historic variety.
Plant about 1 meter tall. Very round fruits about 8 cm in diameter. Rare red tomato variety with firm flesh and excellent flavor. All red tomatoes dream of becoming Plourdes. Grown by the family of Aurélius Plourde from Saint-Alexandre de Kamouraska, Quebec, since 1925. Passed on to Jeannot Pelletier and later to René Paquet, who cultivated and observed it before sharing it through the Heritage Seed Catalogue Canada and making it available to everyone. According to René Paquet, who shared the story of this Quebec treasure with Heritage Seed, “it is a beautiful heirloom that, over time, unfortunately came to forget its identity and its roots.”
